Six police officers were shot with three of them are feared dead in a shoot-out in Baton Rouge, Louisiana approx 9 a.m Sunday morning.
The attack was said to be an ambush, after police reportedly received a call of a “suspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle,” The shooter was dressed in black , less than a mile from police H.Q.
When police arrived to check out the situation, the man opened fire killing three law enforcement officers.
Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish, said authorities were still trying to get a handle on the situation, “There is still an active scene. They are investigating,” he said. “Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything.”
One shooter is down and two others are thought to be at large in the Baton Rouge area, the East Baton Rouge sheriff’s office said.– Six law enforcement officers were shot — three are dead and three others are injured, according to Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola.
The spokesman also said the area was being searched for explosives.
A police robot is being deployed and police helecopters are searching the area.
Road blocks are in place.
Tensions in Baton Rouge between the police, the black community and protesters have been running high since Alton Sterling was shot to death by cops, and the video circulated widely.
