Tesla says the term “Autopilot” was removed from the electric car maker’s website for China by accident and it will be rectified.
The tech company says it did revise some of the language on the website to make it clearer to drivers that Autopilot is a driver-assist system and not a self-driving system.
Last week, a driver in Beijing relying on Autopilot mode sideswiped a parked car, one more incident calling into question the safety of the system…
Tesla says the driver’s hands weren’t detected on the steering wheel during the crash. The company says drivers using Autopilot must keep their hands on the wheel and be ready to take over.
Tesla spokeswoman Khobi Brooklyn says the language revisions were in the works for weeks and not related to “current events or articles.”
